Two redesigned crossovers on the way should help Chevrolet increase its retail market share for a third consecutive year, the head of the Chevrolet National Dealer Council says.

At the same time, the brand can't forget about the car side of its portfolio if it wants to keep gaining momentum and avoid overcrowding dealership lots, said Mike Bowsher, who began a two-year term as the council's chairman this month. In particular, he said, Chevy needs to find ways to sell more of its Cruze sedan, which was redesigned for the 2016 model year but posted a double-digit U.S. sales decline last year.

"Cruze is our No. 1 challenge," said Bowsher, owner of Carl Black Automotive Group in Kennesaw, Ga. "I'd say all eyes are on Cruze. This market is under a lot of pressure. It's got everything anybody could ever want on it, but the market for it is shrinking."
