Chevrolet has listened to the masses. After a semiflop with the Camaro redesign last year , it’s changing the front end of the V-8-equipped SS models and, in a rare move, making it look more like the four-banger.

“Customers spoke, and we listened,” said Steve Majoros, director of Chevrolet passenger car and crossover marketing. “The overwhelmingly positive reaction to the Shock’s stylized design helped prompt its transition from concept to production.”

The Shock was the SS Camaro SEMA concept that enthusiasts seemed to like, with the body-color bumper as opposed to black. So far in 2019 Ford’s Mustang is outselling the Camaro (25K vs 16K units), and in 2018 Chevy got trounced to the tune of about 25,000 units.

There are some other new features, besides the maw, including a new LT1 model that “combines the content and design of the Camaro LT and SS.” It gets the big 6.2-liter V-8 engine that produces 455 hp and 455 pound-feet of torque, is offered in both coupe and convertible versions and with a six-speed manual or 10-speed automatic transmission. It also gets an equal-sized wheel setup -- 20 inches by 8.5 inches, as opposed to the current SS’s staggered setup with wider meats in the rear.
