DETROIT -- General Motors has released a teaser photo of the redesigned 2016 Chevrolet Spark that will debut on April 2 at the New York and Seoul auto shows.

The photo shows a more flowing and sporty design. The hood appears to drop more than that of the current Spark and the roof looks to be raised toward the back.

The Spark uses GM's small-car platform that also will underpin the Opel Karl that debuted this month at the Geneva auto show.

Chevy said the redesign will reflect "the changing tastes of the global minicar market."

The Spark is available in 71 countries, with South Korea, the U.S. and Mexico the top three markets.

Chevrolet says the Spark attracts younger and first-time car buyers to the brand, with 26 percent of buyers under 35.

Pricing of the 2015 Spark starts at $13,095, including shipping.
